History |
This is a custom carved baseball bat with Peter Hardy's name. Peter Hardy (1917-1997) was a Canadian brewer from London, Ontario who was one of the founding executives of the Toronto Blue Jays. Hardy acted as the Chairman and CEO of the Blue Jays from 1982-1989 and was succeeded by Paul Beeston as CEO and Sam Pollock as Chairman. Hardy retired in 1992 after the Blue Jays' first World Series victory, but was brought back partway through the 1993 season. He retired again following the 1993 World Series. Peter Hardy was inducted into the Canadian Baseball Hall of Fame in 2004. The wood-carver who created this baseball bat carving was Tom Mattimore, also known as "The Batsmith" or the "Village Batsmith". In 1977, Mattimore had the idea to create custom carved baseball bats, and over the next thirty years he carved bats for every major league team and hundreds of players. |
